What Does Living An Inspired Life Mean?

This video (animated version of above pic) is what an inspired life looks like to me. I’m going fast and furious, getting blown around from one thing to the next, and then when I find my center and block out all the extra noise and really sink into the parts of life I love, my world slows down. I see more clearly. I feel like I’m dancing in the breeze instead of being flung around by it. That is when I am living an inspired life.

But that place, also known as flow state, is hard to find and hard to hold onto, isn’t it. (Did you notice the end of the video speeds back up?) That’s why yoga, meditation, taking walks, & similar activities always have been, and always will be, popular. We are always in search of the peace and happiness of that space.

When art is your business, it’s easy to get caught up in producing more, pitching more, selling more, and repeating. When my day revolves around that kind of pressure, I am not living an inspired life. I am living the opposite of that: a complicated, hectic life. And then what happens? My creativity ghosts me. Hello, more stress.

When my creativity disappears, I take it as a cue that I have neglected my core. So, I head for my hammock, under my favorite tree, with hummingbirds sneaking in for a drink, and reconnect with nature. I realize this is not new information, but it’s worth repeating, nature has amazing healing properties. And what really boosts the experience for me is to turn on Pandora or Spotify and truly immerse myself in the moment. Welcome back creativity. Nice to see you again.

Living an inspired life is not living stress-free. We still need goals and have responsibilities. We still have to participate in life to remain truly healthy. Living an inspired life simply means finding that place of equilibrium where we can focus on what brings us joy while avoiding unnecessary stresses. It is in those moments of peaceful balance that our creativity will shine.
